NEW: BENTHEM CROUWEL
Benthem Crouwel asked photographer and artist Edwin Zwakman to give an impression of their office´s three buildings in Madurodam: the HSL bridge over the Hollandsch Diep, Schiphol airport, and the future Utrecht Central Station. BOOK LAUNCH: READ THIS FIRST
Even in the time it takes to write this newsletter, thousands of things worldwide have gone wrong or have broken down. Making something complex like the Airbus 380 or a tunnel between Spain and Africa demands the involvement of hundreds of people who are intelligent, helpful, humorous and generous; but they may also be narrow-minded, jealous, disinterested, greedy, cynical or simply stupid. First Read This explains and assists. You are cordially invited to the book launch on Tuesday 3 February.

EXHIBITION: THE A12
Many of us use them daily, but scarcely see them. We prefer to drink a cup of coffee, apply lipstick, phone customers, or get irritated with Sunday drivers. Tailbacks are increasing the amount of time we spend on the motorways. Accordingly, it may worthwhile devoting more attention to them, as Architectural Centre Aorta now does.

Exhibition: A12NU! Tactics for the future of the A12 zone, Aorta, Achter de Dom 14, Utrecht, Wednesday-Friday 12.00-17.00 and Saturday 13.00-17.00, free entrance, www.aorta.nu.

Anyone who wishes to attend the exhibition well informed should not miss this book:

* The diabolical motorway. On the tradition of the beautiful road through the Dutch landscape and the longing for the brilliant motorway in the metropolis.
Wim Nijenhuis, Wilfried van Winden / Dutch / ISBN 978 90 6450 590 4 / Euro 39.50
- 'An important contribution and a welcome source for researchers.' Garden History
- 'These two lightly provocative essays are modern classics.' Terra Architectura
