Man develops new devices and is continually improving them. We use ever more refined technology to try and make ourselves both omnipotent and omnipresent. Integrating electronics with clothing therefore is not something that suddenly hits us out of the blue. The textile world is feverishly exploring new material properties. At the same time digital machinery has reached a level where it can take almost any shape. Logical though the merger of electronics and clothing may seem, it is in fact quite difficult to achieve. Electronics are generally considered to belong in small boxes with buttons that do clever things. Clothes on the other hand are part of an entirely different set of conventions. It is not an easy job to get the digital people to think in terms of clothing, nor to convince fashion designers that clothes can do more than just cover our bodies and look up-to-date. New Nomads brings the two worlds together. The book was awarded the Red Dot at the Designzentrum in Nordrhein-Westfalen for its graphic design.
